Overview

An international marketplace e-commerce solution, bolstered with exceptional platform administration and the need for 24/7 uptime.
Kevin Gralen

President, ShopTab

In order to meet the expectations of ShopTab’s exceptional clientele we built the app to be easy to use for all stakeholders, and the systems behind it to be rock-solid. Picking up where the previous developers had left off, we began with an audit and clean-up of partially-implemented features. This included an integrated cart and checkout, and fully localized interface to allow for global expansion. ShopTab has delivered Facebook Shops in over 70 countries and with 50+ currencies.

Our Solution

Expand ShopTab’s reach as an international mobile marketplace.

With an ever expanding international clientele, care was taken to keep the application feeling completely local and engaging. Buyers and sellers in Cambodia and Brazil would feel just as at home on Shoptab as those in Nebraska or Indiana. Supporting an international marketplace means that the lights are always on, and the store needs to be open 24/7, which SoftServ supported through a sustainable framework and ongoing maintenance.

Enhance purchasing options at checkout by creating a PayPal cart.

The inclusion of a PayPal cart expanded market opportunities, since PayPal was a universal, easy-to-adopt platform for ecommerce transactions that made ShopTap available to more small retailers.

ShopTab was transitioning between development teams, and required a productive handoff and continued development.

Picking up where previous developers left off, SoftServ set the stage for sustainable development with an audit and clean-up of partially-implemented features. Our goal was to improve existing code while making sure previous efforts were not wasted. Once the code base was solid and the direction of development was established, we worked with the client to grow the feature offerings to better fit users and business goals.

Results

SoftServ picked up the pieces in the ShopTab development process and made their product globally competitive.

SoftServ implemented simple solutions to technically complex tasks like Amazon and Google API integrations. The app was made to elegantly integrate with other desktop applications.

SoftServ delivered an easy-to-use platform for retailers to update their products in ShopTab. A low technical barrier was essential for wide use and adoption, especially by smaller retail businesses around the world.

SoftServ updated the Ruby on Rails version for ShopTab, keeping it current against security vulnerabilities and for continuous feature development and reliable delivery. This upgrade allowed for code flexibility, reuse, and application growth.

Picking up from another development team while maintaining productivity is challenging. SoftServ and the ShopTab team utilized a shared project board and regular iteration meetings to make sure that goals were being met in alignment with the client’s priorities.
